Terms of Service

CalcSummit calculators are built for construction estimation, not engineering design. Our formulas follow ACI 318, ASCE 7, and RSMeans industry standards and are reviewed by licensed Professional Engineers. Results are estimates — they are not a substitute for site-specific engineering judgment. By using CalcSummit, you agree to these terms.

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using CalcSummit.com (“CalcSummit,” “the Site,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Site. Use of any calculator constitutes acceptance.

2. Calculator Accuracy and Disclaimer

CalcSummit construction calculators produce estimates, not engineering determinations. All results carry a typical ±10–15% estimation variance resulting from site conditions, material grade variation, measurement rounding, and regional supply differences. Always add a waste factor (minimum 10% for most materials) and verify quantities with your supplier before placing orders.

Cost estimates reflect regional benchmarks derived from RSMeans- informed data, updated quarterly by Sarah Kim CPE. They represent average material costs for planning purposes only and do not constitute a bid, quote, or contract price.

3. Professional Consultation Requirement

CalcSummit calculators are not a substitute for the judgment of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), registered architect (RA), certified professional estimator (CPE), or certified construction manager (CCM). Engage a licensed professional for any of the following:

  • Structural elements — foundations, load-bearing walls, beams, columns
  • Safety-critical systems — electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire suppression
  • Building code compliance and permit applications
  • Commercial or industrial construction
  • Projects with public safety implications
  • Seismic design, wind load analysis, or lateral force calculations
Note
CalcSummit is appropriate as a primary reference for material estimation, project budgeting, and pre-planning. For structural, load-bearing, or code-compliance decisions, always engage a licensed engineer.

4. Construction Code Variability

Building codes in the United States vary by state, county, and municipality. CalcSummit calculators are based on widely adopted national standards — including the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC 2021), ACI 318-19, and ASCE 7-22 — but do not account for local amendments, special inspection requirements, or jurisdictional exceptions.

Always verify your project specifications with your local building department before beginning any permitted work. The applicable code cycle in your jurisdiction may differ from the version CalcSummit references.

5. Formula Sources and Standards

CalcSummit formulas are drawn from published industry standards and reviewed by the licensed professional assigned to each calculator silo. The table below maps each calculator category to its governing standard and reviewing authority.

“In my 12 years of construction engineering, I regularly see clients misuse online calculators for structural decisions. The professional consultation clause in these terms is not boilerplate — it reflects real liability risks. CalcSummit results are reliable for material estimation and budgeting, but structural, load-bearing, and code-compliance decisions always require a licensed engineer reviewing site-specific conditions.”
